Delightful vintage Italian 800 silver makeup compact. Cover features a playful rendition of three young boys and their dog sitting by the edge of the woods beautifully and finely hand painted in enamel. Faux lapis lazuli and turquoise enamel accents adorn the perimeter of the case. Both front and back cover have finely etched acanthus, scroll and floral work with evidence of applied gold vermeille (overtime the gold wash has worn away).

During the Victorian Era, the medieval look was all the rage, these chainmail-like coin purses were an extremely popular fashion accessory. Going into the 20th century, with the introduction of more sophisticated machinery they became more accessible to the masses. There was as resurgence in popularity during the Roaring Twenties. These purse were usually lined with silk. 

Lovely antique Scottish (Glasgow) sterling silver mesh coin purse with decorative fringe at the bottom.  Paperclip chain handle measures 14 3/4 inches in length. Hinged closing mechanism features a scalloped edge.
