Exceptional Chinese gourd hand-carved snuff bottle with coral stopper. Snuff Bottles have fascinated both Western and Asian collectors since they were first produced in China in the 18th century. They were used during the Qing Dynasty to contain powdered tobacco as smoking tobacco was illegal during the time. The use of snuff was allowed because it was considered a remedy for common illnesses. These curiosities are highly prized amongst snuff bottle aficionados worldwide. 

The gourd in Chinese culture is often used as a charm for scaring away malefic spirits and diseases, as well as, symbolizing prosperity, happiness, and longevity.
