Some of the earliest pieces in our extensive collection, Georgian era (1700-1837) jewellery is rather rare as many pieces have been re-worked or suffered the fate of refinement in the nearly 200 hundred years since their rise in popularity.
Since at the time everything was illuminated by candles Georgian jewelers combined the use of rose cut diamonds, large colorful gems, foiled back stones, and mixed metal settings with the intended purpose to shine in the flickering candlelight in the elegant rooms of the fashionable wearers.
Much like the Victorians would later adopt, Georgina era jewelry was all about sentimentality. Portrait miniatures, mourning jewellery, and hair jewellery were immensely popular.
