Late nineteenth century pair of porcelain reclined opium smokers. The man and woman are ornately dressed in vibrantly colorful hand-painted 'Hanfu' silk robes. Both figures are decorated with traditional Chinese sacred symbols such as the lotus flower representing purity and elegance, the cherry blossom representing good fortune, and the 'Shou' symbol representing longevity.
