Gabriel Lucas is considered the father of fine Mid-Century jewelry in Quebec and without a doubt one of the most commercially successful Artistic Jewelers in Canada's history.
Having moved to Canada from Paris in 1929, Lucas opened on Sherbrook Street in the 1930's. The Lucas look was inspired by two opposites - nature and the bold geometric patterns of modern sculpture and architecture. In the firms heyday over 50 craftsman were employed.
Amongst the firms many accomplishments - his collection was shown at Expo 67. Lucas also designed pieces for Cartier. Aretha Franklin famously wore one of his designs in a photograph by Bruce Weber for Vogue - this was her own ring; she wore it often and it appears in many photographs of her.
To this day his jewelry continues to be sought after for its originality and quality.
