Early Victorian (1839) shell and onyx mourning brooch.
Mourning jewelry popular from the 16th to 18th centuries was traditionally worn by a person in mourning to commemorate the life of the departed loved one.
Shell: One (1) bezel set, rectangular polished shell measuring approximately 14.25 x 20.40 mm.
Onyx: Sixteen (16) bezel set, single cut onyx measuring approximately from 4.2 to 5.1 mm each in diameter.
Metal: Gold filled
Dimensions: 1 1/8 inch (L) x 1 1/4 inch (W)
Condition: Minor dent on the back of the brooch consistent with age. Please refer to the images for more detail.
