Handsome vintage carnelian signet ring in 10k yellow gold. The carnelian is a very dark red and almost appears to be black on the finger. The last image was taken with a light directly behind the stone to show what the stone looks like held up to light.
Signet rings have been a popular piece of jewelry since the Mesopotamian era (3200 BC), and throughout history have been used to seal letters with the mark of the sender. Although rarely used for that today they continue to be viewed as the mark of a gentleman (or woman!).
