Impeccable signed 'Lalique France' opalescent glass vase  'Avallon'  circa the mid-twentieth century. The vase is decorated with sparrows. 

René Lalique studied at L’École des Arts Décortatifs in Paris as well as the School of Art at Sydenham in London and upon returning to Paris studied sculpture with Justin Lequien. By 1881 was designing and selling jewelry to infamous firms such as Aucoc, Boucheron, and Cartier. In 1885 René Lalique opened his first boutique specializing in jewelry that was much inspired by the emerging Art Nouveau movement. By the 1920’s he had fully devoted himself to the fabrication of glass objects. His objects were the talk of the show at the 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs et Industriel , the exposition for which the Art Deco design era was named. To this day Lalique has remained the ultimate symbol of French luxury.
